Roughly fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state early analysis show the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet aware of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative stated the incident rendered him speechless and had to be resolved quickly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist attack five years ago," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine people by a shooter targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
